Dryer Not Heating

A dryer that runs but produces no heat has a specific component failure—not a general breakdown. On electric dryers the most common causes are a blown thermal fuse, a burned-out heating element, or a failed cycling thermostat. On gas dryers the fault is typically a bad igniter, failed gas valve coils, or a tripped thermal fuse. Clothes Not Drying Properly

Clothes still damp after a full cycle usually means the dryer is not generating enough heat or airflow is restricted. A clogged exhaust vent is the most common cause and also the most overlooked. Other causes include a fouled moisture sensor that ends the cycle early, a partially failed heating element, or a worn drum seal that allows air to bypass the drum.

Dryer Won't Start

A dryer that will not start has one of a small number of common faults: a blown thermal fuse, a failed door switch, a broken start switch, a tripped circuit breaker, or a defective control board. The door switch is one of the most frequent failures—if the dryer does not detect the door as closed, it will not run at all.

Loud Noises From Dryer

Thumping, squealing, and grinding from a dryer during operation indicate worn mechanical parts. Worn drum support rollers produce thumping. A damaged or dry idler pulley causes squealing. Dryer Overheating

Burn marks on clothes or the dryer shutting off on its own are warning signs that need immediate attention.
